Adult Discipleship

Growing as a disciple of Jesus Christ is best done in community. Whether you’re a new Christian or you’d like to go deeper into the faith you’ve had for years, we have studies, events, and groups for you at Floyd UMC.

Adult Bible Studies

Bible Studies are places to grow in your knowledge and love of God in small groups. Various different Bible Studies happen throughout the week, some focusing on a particular book of the Bible or topic. Anyone is welcome to join a Bible Study at any time.

Ongoing Classes

Classes are a place to connect with God and each other during the Sunday School hour. A class is a gathering of adults who meet to fellowship together and share about how life is going and their walk with Christ. Each Sunday, classes walk through a discussion guide prepared by Pastor Timothy in addition to fellowshipping together.

Current Classes

  • We are a group of seniors who wish to discover something new about God, ourselves, and each other every time we meet. So, we generally start off with checking in with what’s happening in our lives and move on to the sermon questions. We trust God’s wisdom to work through each person and therefore encourage sharing their thoughts. Closing in prayer for each other, those who are missing or hurting, and others we love and care about ends our time together which we cherish.

  • We start every class reading the Scripture used from the sermon. Then we read 20 or so other bible verses that cover the same topic and discuss them to know everything the Bible says on a topic. Finally we discuss the questions from the back of the bulletin. Class usually takes 30 - 50 minutes.

  • The class has two teachers, Roy Scoggin and Daniel Porter. The class reads and studies one bible chapter a week, working from the beginning to the end of the Bible. The class also provides the weekly Bible study by email to those that may not be able to attend. The in-class study interprets the chapter, but also goes deeper into historical context and theological research. We attempt to seek the bibles relavance to todays issues. The members have lively discussions about the study and often choose to share the impact of scripture on their daily lives. As with all classes, we discuss that Sunday’s sermon as well. All are welcome.
